From One Baby to Two: Watching Their Family Grow

As a newborn photographer based in Ashland, Illinois, serving Springfield and the surrounding areas, there’s something incredibly special about welcoming families back into my home studio and documenting another chapter of their story.

I photographed their first baby. And now, I got to photograph their second.

I still can’t believe we’re old enough for this stage of life.

I grew up with this couple. Same town. Same schools. Same version of life before any of us knew where we’d end up. So getting a message from them again and trusting me with another newborn session meant more than they probably realize.

There’s something different about sessions like this. The trust is already there. No nerves. No pressure. Just a family settling into their new normal. A toddler figuring out their new role. Parents doing what they already know how to do: love their kids.

This session felt easy. Calm. Real.

I already knew their pace. They already knew mine. And that familiarity leaves room for the moments that matter…the tiny hands, the snuggles, the in between moments you don’t have to force.

Watching families grow is my favorite part of this job. Getting to document the same family more than once, especially people I’ve known most of my life will never stop feeling special.

These are the stories I care about. The ones that don’t need to be overexplained. Just real life, in a season that passes by way too fast.
