How to Prepare for Your Newborn Photo Shoot
Welcoming a new baby is one of life’s sweetest blessings …and those first days are a whirlwind of love, snuggles, and very little sleep. That’s why newborn photography is so special: it freezes these fleeting moments so you can treasure them forever.
Here’s how to make sure your newborn session is stress-free and full of beautiful memories.
---
1. Book Early
The best time to photograph newborns is when they’re between 5–14 days old. Babies are still sleepy and flexible, which makes it easier to capture those dreamy, curled-up poses. If possible, book your session before your baby arrives so we can secure your spot.
---
2. Keep It Cozy
A warm, comfortable baby is a happy baby. I keep my home studio at a toasty temperature, but dressing your little one in a loose-fitting outfit makes it easy to transition into wraps and poses without disturbing them.
---
3. Feed Before the Session
A full tummy helps your baby relax and drift off into that sweet, deep sleep we all love in newborn portraits. Try to feed them right before you leave home (or upon arrival if that’s easier for you).
---
4. Dress in Neutrals
For parents and siblings, choose soft, neutral tones that complement your baby. Think creams, whites, beiges, and pastels. Avoid bold patterns, bright colors, or big logos that can distract from the sweet connection in your images.
---
5. Bring Meaningful Items
If you have a special blanket, heirloom outfit, or sentimental accessory, bring it along. Personal touches make your photos unique to your family.
---
6. Relax and Enjoy the Process
Newborn sessions can take time….and that’s okay! Babies need breaks, feedings, and snuggles, and I’m here to follow their lead. Your job is simply to soak in the experience while I handle the rest.
