Welcome to the World, Sweet Karsyn | Springfield, Illinois Newborn Photographer
There is something incredibly special about those first few weeks with a newborn. The days seem to blend together with late night feedings, endless snuggles, and soaking in every tiny detail because, before you know it, your baby has already changed!
It was such an honor to welcome sweet baby Karsyn and her family into my Ashland home studio for her newborn session. From the moment they walked through the door, you could feel how loved this little girl already is. Mom and Dad were absolutely glowing, and Karsyn's big sister couldn't wait to love on her new baby sister. Watching her gently cuddle, kiss, and admire Karsyn made for some of my favorite moments from the entire session.
One thing I loved most about this session was keeping everything simple and timeless. Soft neutral colors, cozy wraps, and natural family interactions allow the focus to stay exactly where it belongs….on your newest little love. Trends come and go, but timeless portraits will never go out of style. Years from now, these images will still feel just as beautiful as they do today.
Give Yourself Grace, Mama
If you're reading this while expecting your own little one, or you're already in the middle of those newborn days, this is your reminder to give yourself grace. You don't need to "bounce back" before your session. You don't need a full night's sleep or a perfectly clean house. Newborn life is beautifully messy, and that's exactly why these moments deserve to be documented. My home studio is designed to be calm, cozy, and relaxed. We take breaks for feeding, diaper changes, and cuddles whenever they're needed. There is never any pressure to rush because babies are always the ones setting the schedule.
Those Tiny Details Don't Last Long
One of my favorite parts of every newborn session is capturing all of the little things parents never want to forget.
Tiny fingers wrapped around Mom's hand.
Little wrinkly toes.
Sleepy eyelashes.
Soft baby lips.
The swirl of newborn hair.
Those tiny details change so quickly. Within just a few weeks, your baby will already begin to look different, which is why I love preserving them forever.
Family Photos Matter Just as Much
While newborn portraits are always beautiful, family images often become the ones parents treasure most. One day, Karsyn will look back at these photographs and see the way her parents smiled at her. She'll see how excited her big sister was to hold her. She'll see just how deeply she was loved from the very beginning. Those are the memories that become priceless.
What Should You Wear for Newborn Photos?
One question I hear all the time is, "What should we wear?"
For timeless portraits, I always recommend soft neutral colors like creams, whites, beiges, light browns, muted blush, and soft earth tones. These colors photograph beautifully together and keep the focus on your family's connection instead of your clothing.
Karsyn's family chose light, neutral outfits that created a soft, classic look I know they'll love for years to come.
When Should You Book Your Newborn Session?
The best time to reserve your newborn session is during your second trimester. I pencil in your due date on my calendar and then schedule your session once your baby arrives. Ideally, newborn sessions take place within the first two weeks of life while babies are still extra sleepy and curly.
Thank you, Underwood family, for trusting me to capture such a meaningful season of your lives. It was such a joy meeting sweet Karsyn and watching your growing family.
Welcome to the world, Karsyn. You are already so incredibly loved!
